Are other types of vendors welcome too? We contract with local farms and producers for ingredients as much as possible. Aboxa Fudge is smooth and creamy, all natural, and manufactured in Dublin Ohio. Please call or send an email with market details. Thanks, Rose

I am a grower in West Jefferson, OH. I am interested in more information about your market. What day of the week do you plan to run the market. We have a need in Central Ohio for more Tuesday markets.

Jean,
The typical buckeye peanut butter and chocolate confection is considered a cottage food and as such you can produce it in your home kitchen.

Here are the labeling requirements:
http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3715.023

Cottage Food Products may only be sold in Ohio. Cottage Food Products that are properly identified and labeled may be sold:

directly to the consumer from the site where the products are produced

sold through grocery stores

farm markets

farmers markets

sold and/or used in preparing food in a restaurant

The above info is from this Ohio Dept. of Agriculture Fact Sheet.

It is a good idea to check with the ODA to make sure your particular recipe qualifies as a cottage food.
Contact ODA Division of Food Safety: 1-800-282-1955 Ext 4366; Email: foodsafety@agri.ohio.gov

Best Wishes,
Mayda

Dear Ruth:

The Farmers Market Promotion Program cannot fund construction, but you may want to explore the community facilities grants offered by USDA Rural Development at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/HAD-CF_Grants.html.

That's all the info you need to register.

To participate in any webinar you will need to use your Penn

Ruth, These grants are typically for promotional expenses such as advertising, brochure design and printing and other marketing expenses. I doubt they would grant for construction of a pavillion, but please go to http://www.ams.udsa.gov/farmersmarkets and look into the rules and see, I may be wrong.

Mike, Perhaps you can cite the specific section. Food Safety News blog posted an article that also questioned the loopholes in the Tester amendment. The discussion in their comments presents some good arguments from actual small farmers and consumers who buy food from them. It is informative reading at
